Twelve Apostates

April 7, 2009

I could not let this one pass by without making a comment or two about it.  From the The Brigham Young University newspaper The Daily Universe on April 6, 2009.

Carefully read this mistake on the caption of this BYU newspaper photograph.  Some us would argue that for once the newspaper finally got it right.  These twelve apostates are voting to sustain another to join them.  Apostate is one who renunciates a religious faith.  Mormon leaders like these have been renouncing Biblical Christianity since the beginning of the church, in their claim that they belong to the only true church.

Finally, the truth of their church has come out.  They have strayed from the gospel of Jesus and replaced it with a sugar coated lie that denies the power of God, but speaks about him affectionately.  God’s salvation is for all.  A gift freely given by God’s power, not earned as a reward for being good.  It really is as simple as John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

A Living Stone

March 30, 2007

Rather than trying to come up with some modern spin to the Resurrection of Jesus, I will just quote the words of the witnesses and affirm my belief in all of them. Belief that Jesus died on the Cross, innocent of all, for the deserved punishment of everyone else-to save them. Belief that Jesus’ body lay in the tomb behind a cold stone for three days. Belief that on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead-to give new and everlasting life for all who believe, including me-I once was lost, a sheep wandering. but now am found. I have found not a cold stone guarding death but a Living Stone that is the foundation of my faith-Jesus.

Read the account quoted directly from John 20:1-23 [New King James Version, copyright 1982 Thomas Nelson, Inc]

Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb. So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first. And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed. For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her. Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Merry Christmas, again.

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peaceSilent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

What’s in a name?

December 7, 2006

The observant reader of this web log may have noticed that my personal profile has been updated to show that I am now the father of four, the actual number is five; five years ago my wife miscarried our third baby; We eagerly await seeing our child, who is waiting for us in heaven. Before I introduce our youngest which has been affectionately named peanut, and lives in the comfort of “his” nurturing mother. The older three.

First, the oldest and ring leader of our three ring circus, Deonna Marie. She is blessed with a unique name that fits with her unique style. She is eleven and recently celebrated her birthday and really enjoys listening to her CD player. She does not know that the only CD’s that are playing in it are parent approved and mostly contemporary Christian songs. Her brown hair is unique for children in our family. She is special in her mild manner and long fuse.

Next, Jonathan Michael, my namesake. Most of the world knows him as Michael. He is smarter than me. He is nine. His favorite activity is playing Star Wars, Lego on the Gamecube. He is very sensitive and extreme in all he does.

Then, Danielle Carlina, the soon to be replaced baby of the family. She is four. When she is listening to her mother and I, we all call her, Dani. Otherwise her name is Dannika! No need to adjust the color on your computer monitor, both Danielle and her older brother have red hair, she even more than her bother has the temperament to prove it.

Now introducing our fourth.

“He” is the white shape in the left of this black and white ultrasound photo. We have put in an order for a healthy brown haired boy. Only God only knows. We placed the order to restore balance to the universe. The short list of names for boys include Mason or Kenroy. Kenroy is the combination of two great-grandfathers names, Kenneth and Roy. If the baby is a girl, She will be named either Mariah or Mariam in honor of her mother and grandmother. As a reader, you can contribute your favorite names. Leave a suggestion and reason why you like the name below.
